As I stated in previous posts
there are many good and
bad female cops on TV.
However girls don’t need to be cops to be completely bad-ass. A lot of other TV
gals are waving their ‘girl-power’ flags out there. Here are some of my
favorites:
Pam – True Blood

Everybody is a supernatural
killer of some sort on this show. Pam is a relatively new vampire, but there is
no one more bad-ass than her. With such an obsession with fangs on movies and
TV lately, I am surprised there aren’t many bad-ass girl-vampires (Caroline and
Rebekha from TVD were in the running). Somehow vampire shows make it all about
the boys and relegate the women to being whiny, bitchy or both. Pam is a
different story. She is devoted to her maker Eric, but she wouldn’t let anyone
else intimidate her or order her around. She may dress in hot pink and look
like ‘vampire Barbie’ most of the time, but don’t be fooled, Pam means
business. No other character on the show has as many good one-liners as Pam [if
you are picking up what I am putting down] and I just love the fact that she
has a maker/progeny/love interest relationship with Tara who is the second most
bad-ass girl on this show. Seriously, let’s make the show about Pam/Tara, we
are over everybody taking turns to rescue Sookie.
Ava – Justified
I never thought Ava was a good
fit with Raylan, so I didn’t care much for her during season 1 of Justified. However, as soon as Ava
hooked up with Boyd she came alive. I think the role of crime-lord mastermind’s
girl fits her perfectly. She is smart and can keep up with Boyd and she is not
afraid to use a gun. She may be way down the wrong path, but she is pretty
bad-ass at it.
Fiona – Burn Notice
Described during the opening
credits as Michael’s ‘trigger-happy’ girlfriend, this Irish beauty is not to be
underestimated. Fiona is nowhere near your typical damsel in distress. I am
glad they didn’t go down the road of having the naïve spy’s girlfriend on Burn Notice. Fiona can more than keep up
with her burnt-spy-spy-again-burnt-again boyfriend. She is an authority on
making bombs and a skilled sniper. She rescues Michael as often as he rescues her,
she never loses her cool and can do everything the boys do in 6 inch heels.
Arya Stark – Game of Thrones
This girl is the definition of
bad-ass. While her older sister was busy dressing in pretty clothes and
pointlessly begging for mercy, Arya did the smart thing and she ran away while
she could. She got by thanks to her sword skills, will-power and wits. She went
from being a lady living in a castle to pretending to be a low born boy, and
she didn’t even break in the process. So far she has fought with boys twice her
size, wounded a prince (now King), schooled the deceitful Tywin Lanniester and
leaded a prison break. Arya is easily one of my favorite characters from Game of Thrones (the show and the
books).
The Dowager Countless – Downton Abbey
OK, so what is an 70 something
woman doing on this list? Well, I dare anybody argue how bad-ass the Dowager
Countess of Grantham (AKA Violet) is. She may not be able to kick-ass in one on
one combat, but she can do more damage with her mouth and snotty comments than
anybody else and I suspect she could have mad skills with that cane if the
situation ever called for it. Similarly to Pam, the Dowager Countess has a
repertoire of one-liners that kill. We all know who the true ruler of Downton Abbey is and it is not Lord
Gratham. If you don’t agree “you can put that in your pipe and smoke it”.
